Gurkha -Revenant Corojo Robusto
Gurkha Revenant Corojo Robusto cigars are medium-bodied with a Honduran Corojo Colorado wrapper, a Cameroon binder, and Nicaraguan and Dominican Corojo 98 filler tobacco. These cigars come in two sizes: Robusto and Toro. This blend was created by Ram Rodriguez of Tabacalera El Artista for Gurkha, and it is their first collaboration. Originally, he wanted to use the Cameroon leaf as a wrapper, but they landed on using it as a binder due to its fragile nature. There is also a Maduro version with a Mexican San Andres wrapper. The box states that this is a resurrected blend with a revenant. A Revenant is someone who rose from the dead, typically to avenge their death. These cigars are just as legendary! The luxurious cigars have rings and boxes that showcase intricate designs; however, don't let the look mislead you. These are still quite affordable and perfect for an everyday smoke. Pair the stick with a glass of bourbon and you're set to have a great evening. Ram Rodriguez and Kaizad Hansotia truly outdid themselves with this blend.
Wrapper: Corojo, Honduras
Binder: Cameroon
Filler: Dominican Republic, Nicaragua
Size: 5″ × 50“ Box Pressed Parejo
The Cold Draw :
The flavors are of cherry, leather, cedar, rose hips, and hazelnut.
Flavors
1st :
The initial puffs of this cigar contain mild, earthy notes of dirt or clay with a nutty note like hazelnut, baking notes of dry cocoa, graham cracker, and wheat, and some slight barnyard flavors.
2nd:
The second third brings more notes of leather, nuts like cashews, and Dutch process cocoa. There's a delicate hint of graham cracker and a mineral quality like pyrite. The cigar flavors remain earthy and woody, with a pepper note that’s in the background like green peppercorns.
3rd:
The last third has the major flavor notes of earthy tones like soil and clay, the spice has more intensity, which is now more of a roasted note or a coffee flavor. The woody and earthy notes remain. Thes ’s a hint of creaminess like cassava or a sweetness like cane sugar to the cigar with a finish that’s astringent
The Draw :
I did a V cut. The draw is light throughout, more on the first half, though the construction is solid and tight with a smooth, lightly oily wrapper.
The Burn :
Ash is vigorous with slight flowering, and the char line is clean—a pretty slow burner.
There is not much smoke output from this cigar.
The Appearance :
The cigar itself is smooth-looking cigar with a light brown color to it. The wrapper does have some defects and color discolorations.
It was wrapped with a single label featuring a cream background, their logo at the top, and ornate decorations and information in black surrounded with gold.
Final Thoughts:
83 Points
This cigar is pleasant but unremarkable, and it felt underfilled and performed accordingly. The burn line was thick, and you could see the wrapper color change from the heat. The ash had a great deal of flowering and had to be relit two or three times.
It’s an okay cigar. It smoked like it was very young and needed to be aged more. From the wrapper having a thick burn line to the overall smoking experience that was sharp, it had the young tobacco with a harshness, as if it had been rushed.
