Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua

The Montecristo brand is celebrating 85 years of success in creating amazing blends. Montecristo has a portfolio of cigars spanning the entire gamut of strength. Tried-and-true favorites like Montecristo White Label and Montecristo Epic, along with many of their other lines, have risen and received well-deserved 90+ ratings.

To celebrate their success and the milestone, Altadis brand ambassador Rafael Nodal once again reached out to cigar master blender AJ Fernandez for help in creating a tribute to the original blend of the first Montecristo cigar. In true AJ fashion, he swung hard, and they knocked it out of the park once again with the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua. Using premium tobaccos from AJ's farms and rolled at the esteemed San Lotano factory, this Nicaraguan puro is a medium to full-bodied experience that will ensnare your palate with notes of wood, coffee, cinnamon, earth, spice, and naturally sweet tobacco from start to finish. The fantastic blend, coupled with the company's high construction standards, makes this cigar one not to miss. Put on your party hat, grab your favorite beverage, grab a box (or two), and join in this monumental celebration!

Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua received a well-deserved 97-point rating and the #2 Cigar of 2024 spot, with the review noting: "The Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Espeso is a bigger, thicker representation of the brand, not only capturing all the coffee bean, earth, and spicy notes of the original sizes, but actually enhancing them."

Wrapper: Nicaragua

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua

Size: 6.1″ × 52“ Torpedo

The Cold Draw :

The flavors are of coca nib, Grains of Paridice, Navel Orange, Colve, White Pepper, and nettle leaf

Flavors

1st :

Initial puffs from this cigar have notes of oak, cork, leather, green peppercorn, Bermuda grass, red miso, Bing cherry, cola, magnolia, and Sal de Mer.

2nd:

The second third brings more fruit notes, like dried mango, peach blossom, and papaya. Notes of mint, wheat germ, and subtle hints of grains of paradise

3rd:

The last third has more of a coca-nib, dark-roast coffee note throughout, with papaya, white pepper, oak, wheat, and a cork like finish.

The Draw :

I did a large V cut. The draw is constant and smooth, with no resistance, but I did purge a few times.

The Burn :

The burn is consistent and even with no need to be relit.

There is a mild smoke output from this cigar but high nicotine content

The Appearance :

It was wrapped with a single label featuring their logo in gold, with the 1935 anniversary under it, all in gold, on a black background.

The Cigar is a deep chocolate color with no cracking or oily shine to it and consistent in color and feel

Final Thoughts:

86 Points

This cigar is full-bodied, with a deep flavor and depth, but not in variety of flavors; most are consistent throughout.

I was dissapointed by this cigar with it beeing the number two cigar of 2024
